Christian Education

The Christian Education Programs of NPC are overseen by the Equipping Ministry. The goal of the Equipping Ministry is to “equip the saints” of the congregation. In Paul’s second letter to Timothy 3:16-17, he tells them, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the people of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” In the case of the Church, that translates to providing Christian Education to the congregation at large.

They also performed a re-enactment of the Christmas story in Fellowship hall.  Click here for photos of the 2010 pageant. We did another fun and meaningful re-enactment for the Easter season in April.  Click here for photos of the 2011 pageant.  In March we will have an intergenerational mission project involving art and serving some of our mission partners. For 6th and 7th grade, we’ll incorporate special games and activities into their classroom experience. The 9th through 12th grades will use a curriculum specially designed for youth. The ARC activities, games, and the classroom curriculum are designed to teach God’s Word and develop faith in fun and experiential ways. We light the Christ candle each week and pray together. Throughout the year the children support outreach activities such as the  Heifer Project and One Great Hour of Sharing. They also have the opportunity for local mission by providing Christmas gifts for the East End Cooperative Ministry. Each year both the third and eight grade classes are presented Bibles as a gift from NPC. We will have a Sunday School fair on May 22nd to celebrate the year and have fun with our classmates playing games, meeting challenges, and eating goodies.

ADULT EDUCATION

adult-ed-2

Sunday Morning Sunday morning ( 9:45 a.m.) Adult Education programs cover a broad range of interesting topics. These involve in-depth Bible study as well as theological classes and special awareness programs.

  • The Adult Bible Study is studying Revelation, a book that has generated many interpretations, many of which misrepresent the intention of its author, John.  We are using a DVD series led by Dr. Brian Blount, President of Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, VA and a Commentary written by Earl Palmer. The study group hasthe use of the new RSV and NIV Bibles donated to the Church in memory of Gini Miller. Bring your own Bible, if you prefer. The class is held in Common Ground and is led by Keith Paulson.
  • Contemporary Issues and Our Faith discussion presents an opportunity to examine modern issues for Christians. Dennis Skeers continues this discussion format class where an issue of the day is presented as a round table starting point from which comments from Scripture, theology and life make for a lively discussion and consideration together.  This class meets in the adult Meeting Room.
  • A “lectio divina” class takes a passage of Scripture and considers it in quite reflection after the ancient practice.  Each class stands on its own and requires no preparation except a willing and open mind and heart.  This class meets in the Ed Wing Room 207.  For more details click here.
  • Are you 20 something, 30 something, or somewhere close? Grab a cup of coffee and come to the front of Fellowship Hall at 9:45. We will have a topic of the day. We will make a quick read of a one page set up sheet and then take on the topic and see what our collective thoughts and questions are as we stretch our minds and grow in faith. We are excited about what we can become!   more click here

  • Walking it in silence
  • Letting all thought go
  • Focusing on a problem
  • Allowing God to speak to you in an image
  • Lifting up a particular healing you might need

Grades K-5  learn through a series of rotations to centers and share a common worship time and offering.  The rising 6th and 7th graders go out on a “trek” each day based on the theme of the Bible story.
