ALTERNATIVE CHRISTMAS GIFTS

During the 2009 Christmas season Outreach is sponsoring an ALTERNATIVE GIFTS campaign for Haiti. These Christmas gifts last longer than the holiday season and have a significant impact on improving the life of someone else.

TREES FOR THEIR REFORESTATION PROGRAM

Haiti is one of the most impoverished nation in the western hemisphere. One of the major economic problems is reforestation. Trees that once covered this Caribbean Island were cut down over the years and used as fuel. Now much of the land is barren and eroded and no longer lush with vegetation. At the La Croix Mission, Pastor Pierre has begun to change things. He has a program in place to grow fruit and shade trees. He distributes them by grade level to children in school. The children are given a tree and are taught how to take care of it. The gift can be a shade tree or a fruit tree. The children develop pride and responsibility through this project and the land is improved and fruit is provided for food.
