Katrina Trips

Hurricane Katrina caused massive devastation in the Gulf coast area to both buildings and their residents. In response the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance established Volunteer Villages for volunteers who want to help. Tom Seeley, Bob Tyson, Danise Pruzinsky, and Andrew White from Newlonsburg and others from Redstone Presbytery churches made a mission trip in November of 2005 to Biloxi, Mississippi. The main work on this trip was clearing houses of Katrina damage and show the residents impacted that others cared and wanted to help.

Since the initial trip, Newlonsburg and other Redstone Presbytery churches have responded with additional mission trips. (For more information go to the Redstone Presbytery web site.) In a January of 2006 trip, Jeff Brummer, Jim Roncase and Bob Tyson participated in mold abatement activities and fostered previously developed friendships. In an April of 2006 trip, Shirley and Don Dick and Bob Wray participated in construction work.  In November of 2006, 11 of us participated in another construction work trip with Westminister Presbyterian Church.  Participating from NPC were Tara Bird, Jeff Brummer, Karen and Jim Hay, Mark Lieber, Kathie and Bill Lukitsch, Judy and Ty Radcliff, Carl Vernon and Ken White.  In November 2009, 10 of us participated in a construction work trip to New Orleans this time.  Participating were Frank Beninati, Bev Cole, Sharon and Leonard Scimio, Mark Lieber,  Judy and Ty Radcliff, Bob Tyson, Carl Vernon and Bob Wray.
