Our Partnership with Christians in Sudan

sudanIn 2005 , in a united voice, the churches in Redstone Presbytery voted to enter a partnership with the Sudan Presbyterian Evangelical Church (SPEC). SPEC has 64 church congregations and more than 60 preaching centers in Sudan. Our partners in Sudan are Christians who are deeply committed to living out the gospel of Jesus Christ, sharing hope and joy in the midst of the harsh challenges
in the world around them.

Humanitarian Crisis in Sudan
The people in Sudan have suffered greatly in the past 20 years, with more than 2 million lives lost in armed conflict, and more than 180,000 lives exterminated in a government-sanctioned genocide of native people. Hundreds of thousands of people have died of starvation, and more than one million people are now refugees.

How Can Our Church Help?

Prayer
Prayer is powerful and one of the most sought-out, cherished ministries of our partnership.

Presence
An incarnational partnership is one that recognizes the blessing of sharing lives and worshipping together. Help support travel opportunities.

Projects and Programs
There are many opportunities for churches to partner in life giving programs of nurture and support.

Political Action
The PC (USA) supports the Sudan Advocacy Action Forum, an ecumenical group of volunteers who work to achieve a just and lasting peace in Sudan. For more information, go to www.sudanadvocacy.com. In addition, Newlonsburg’s pastors and session encourage members of the congregation to write letters to their representatives in Washington DC concerning efforts to stop the genocide.
